Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 August 2026 · Effective for votebank.app and the VoteBank / My Votebank apps
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using VoteBank you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
1. Information we collect
Account & profile
When you register or complete your profile, we may collect:
- Phone number and/or email address
- Name, handle, photo, and bio you choose to share
- Date of birth or age band, gender, and other optional profile fields
- Location details you provide (for example city, state, pincode)
- Interests or topics you select
Votes & activity
- Votes, survey answers, comments, likes, follows, and content you create
- Group / page membership and participation
- Device and app usage signals needed to run the product (e.g. session, crash logs)
Waitlist & campaign site
On votebank.app we may collect your email and mobile number so we can notify you when the app is available. We store these on our servers for the waitlist only — they are not sold.
Automatically collected
- IP address, approximate location derived from network or profile
- Device type, OS, app version, and browser information
- Cookies or similar technologies on the website (where used)
2. How we use information
- Provide, secure, and improve VoteBank (voting, results, analytics, notifications)
- Show aggregate and anonymised insights (including demographics and geography where available)
- Prevent fraud, spam, duplicate voting abuse, and policy violations
- Communicate service updates, security alerts, and (with consent where required) product news
- Comply with law and enforce our Terms & Conditions
Public results are designed to show aggregate opinion, not to publish your individual vote to other users as a personalised scoreboard. Creators of polls may see analytics about their own content under product rules.
3. When we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:
- Service providers who host infrastructure, send messages, or analyse reliability — under contracts that limit their use
- Legal authorities when required by applicable law or to protect rights and safety
- Business transfers if VoteBank is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale (you will be notified where required)
The marketing site may show live aggregate poll tallies from public APIs. Waitlist email and phone numbers are not sold to third parties.
4. Retention
We keep account, vote, and activity data for as long as your account is active and as needed to operate the service, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations. You can delete your account yourself at any time — see Deleting your account below for exactly what is erased and when. Some records may be retained in anonymised or limited form where the law requires it or where needed for security and integrity (for example anti-abuse logs).
5. Deleting your account
You can delete your account yourself, from inside the app, at Profile → Settings → Delete account. You do not need to email us, visit this website, or ask support to do it for you.
What is permanently erased
At the end of the 30-day window we delete, irreversibly:
- Your phone number and email address
- Your name, handle, address, pincode, date of birth and every other profile field, including your profile photo
- Your credit balance, streak and full transaction history
- All sessions and sign-in tokens, and your notification history
- Your follows, blocks, bookmarks and likes
Your phone number is released at the same time, so it is free to register a brand-new account with afterwards. A new account started that way is unrelated to the deleted one and has none of its history.
What stays, in de-identified form
Polls and comments you posted stay in the shared threads where other people voted and replied, so that deleting your account does not delete other people's participation with it. These are no longer connected to you: your name, handle and photo are gone and the author is shown only as “Deleted account”. Your votes remain counted in poll totals in the same de-identified way, and cannot be traced back to you.
We may also keep limited records in anonymised form where the law requires it or where they are needed for security and abuse prevention, as described in Retention.
The 30-day window
The window exists so that an accidental deletion can be undone — it is not a deactivation feature and not a cooling-off period we control. It cannot be extended, you cannot use the app while it runs, and you do not have to do anything for the deletion to complete at the end of it.
If you cannot reach the app
If you have lost access to your phone number and cannot sign in to delete the account yourself, email privacy@votebank.app and we will delete it for you. We may need to verify your identity first.
6. Your choices & rights
Depending on applicable Indian law (including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, where it applies), you may be able to:
- Access or correct profile information in the app
- Request a copy of certain personal data we hold about you
- Delete your account yourself at any time, in the app — see Deleting your account — or ask us to delete specific personal data
- Withdraw consent for optional processing where consent is the basis
- Opt out of non-essential marketing emails
Contact privacy@votebank.app to make a request. We may need to verify your identity before acting.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; please use a strong device lock and keep your login credentials confidential.
8. Children
VoteBank is intended for adults. If you are under 18, do not create an account or provide personal information. If we learn we have collected data from a minor without appropriate authorisation, we will take steps to delete it.
9. International processing
Servers and processors may be located in India or other countries. Where data is transferred, we take steps designed to keep protections consistent with this policy and applicable law.
10. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date will change, and material updates may be highlighted in the app or on the website. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
